The husband of Ruth, a wealthy Bethlehemite. By the “levirate law” the duty devolved on him of marrying Ruth the Moabitess ([Ruth 4:1-13](/ruth#Ruth.4.1)). He was a kinsman of Mahlon, her first husband.
